Maman

Maxine is a doctor and the mother of a 15-year-old girl. She is a well-liked figure in her village and leads a happy existence. Her destiny changes the day she receives a phone call from the police: the apartment of her mother, Edith, with whom she has had no contact for years, has burned down following a domestic accident, a man’s body has been found inside, and the septuagenarian remains nowhere to be found. This news reopens deep wounds for Maxine. She soon tracks down her mother, but she’s suffering from dementia. To keep Edith out of a psychiatric hospital, Maxine decides to take her into her family home. But the mother-daughter relationship is complicated, so much so that Maxine wonders if her mother is really ill. Should you distrust the person who’s supposed to love you the most?
