In The Glove Compartment a woman searches for her missing mother on a surreal journey through the Canadian wilderness. The series is inspired by the history of militant environmentalist groups like Earth First! and the Animal Liberation Front, who attacked meat plants, utility poles, and tourist resorts in the 1980’s. Our protagonists are Alice, a young French woman and trainee psychoanalyst in search of her biological mother. Her supervisor the sober, but manipulative Lacanian analyst Dr. Aurèle and a mysterious activist group called the «Anti-Road Movement». Intertwined are those storylines through the glove compartment of an old Volkswagen, that opens up onto a labyrinth of tunnels, that transport Alice back to the 1980s. Here, she becomes embroiled in her mother’s past as an eco-terrorist, leading to unforeseen consequences in the present.
