In the turmoil of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the GDR, the father of 15-year old Anna disappears. The young girl with German-Icelandic roots will never see him or the country of her childhood again. Twenty years later, as the banking crisis holds Iceland and its people in its clutches, Anna, now a 35-year-old police officer in Reykjavik and mother of a pubescent daughter, learns that her father’s remains have finally been found. She returns to her native country for the first time only to painfully realize that she herself played a role in that fateful night. Together with former East German police officer Mathias Neumann, who was demoted to cold case specialist in the new unified country, they dig into the past threatening to unravel the secrets of a number of suspects in both countries.
