James Poniewozik is the chief television critic for the New York Times and the author of Audience of One: Donald Trump, Television, and the Fracturing of America. His work particularly focuses on the intersection of popular culture and politics. He has written on subjects ranging from the television coverage of elections to the evolution of streaming TV and how changes in television technology and business affect changes in television’s storytelling. Before joining the Times in 2015, he was a television and media columnist for Time magazine and the media editor of Salon. He lives in Brooklyn, New York.
