Women & representation in the AI / microdrama age : the return of stereotypes?

Creative Talks

After years of progress — or rather years spent correcting long-standing biases — a troubling future is emerging.
AI, despite itself, generates stories shaped by historically stereotyped training data; micro-dramas often portray women in highly caricatured ways, representing a clear step backward in how women are depicted on screen; and a growing masculinist sphere aims to “re-educate” younger generations with rigid visions of what a woman should or should not be.
While recent years have shed light on disparities in the presence of women both in front of and behind the camera, as well as in positions of power, very few anticipated this subtle yet significant regression in how women are represented. And yet, this is where everything begins: in the ability to imagine oneself as a nurse or as a neurosurgeon.
Beyond the diagnosis, how can we respond? How do we take action?
