International Competition Jury
“Karin Viard is one of France’s most acclaimed actresses. She has been nominated thirteen times for the Césars, and won three times. After a difficult start in the 1980s, she quickly found success in the following decade, going from minor roles, such as in Auntie Danielle (1990) and Delicatessen (1991), to a leading role in Hikers (1997). But it is her poignant role in Solveig Anspach’s drama Battle Cries (1999) which established her talent and won her the César for Best Actress in 2000.
Two years later, after Summer Things (2002), for which she was awarded the César for Best Supporting Actress, she played roles in various genres: the drama Paris (2008), the comedy Potiche (2011) and the comedy drama 21 Nights with Pattie (2015). Her performances in The Role of her Life (2004), Polisse (2011), The Bélier Family (2014) and Jealous (2017), earned her further César nominations for Best Actress but it was the drama Little Tickles (2018) which won her the award for the second time.
Recently, she has appeared in the series In the Shadows (2024), which was in competition in Series Mania in 2024 and shown on France 2 the same year.”
