Enrico Maria Artale is an italian director and screenwriter.
He realized several awarded short films including MY BOW BREATHING which was presented at Locarno Film Festival in 2011. His first feature film, THE THIRD HALF, premiered at the 70th Venice Film Festival, Official Competition Orizzonti, and earned a special mention for first feature. His documentary feature SARO, won the award for Best Documentary at 34° Turin Film Festival, and was later nominated for the David di Donatello in 2018.
He later started an international career in TV series, directing several episodes in a various range of shows: the psychological thriller SANCTUARY (TV4), with Matthew Modine and Josephine Asplund, the period drama ROMULUS(SKY) and the western DJANGO (CANAL+ and SKY), with Matthias Schonaerts and Noomi Rapace.
He wrote and directed his second feature EL PARAISO, that premiered at the 80th Venice Film Festival where he was awarded with Best Screenplay in Orizzonti Competition. The film also won awards for Best Actress and Best Italian Film.
He is the only director in charge of UN PROPHÈTE, an eight episodes series for CANAL+ adapted from the film by Jacques Audiard. He also figures as co-writer and executive producer for the series, which has been presented Out of Competition at the 82nd Venice Film Festival.
