What It Feels Like For A Girl is a wild, anarchic Y2K coming-of-age drama based on Paris Lees’ acclaimed memoir. Stuck in a small working-class town, Byron needs to get away, and doesn’t care how. Life explodes in a rush when Byron escapes to Nottingham’s kinetic underworld. The party can’t last though, and when Byron is seduced by bad-boy Liam, a shocking encounter occurs that will change life forever.

Adapted from the memoir of the award-winning journalist, broadcaster and LGBTQ campaigner Paris Lees

Our take

A coming-of-age and into oneself story, about driftless young people, presented as regular folks. Though is anyone ever “regular”? With rapturous energy, a refreshing level of empathy and endless nuance, What it feels like for a girl imagines complex communities, spaces and colorful lives in the periphery, so often bypassed. An envelope-pusher in queer and transgender representation and desire, as stylish and sexy as it is sincere and intimate.
