Turbia

In the year 2023, a huge environmental and social crisis shakes Cali, after months of drought that end in a water shortage and contamination. The city has been split into two separate areas: the privileged zone, for the wealthy and powerful; and the “dry zone” with no drinking water, where the rest of the population, laid low by the crisis, experiences overwhelming violence, unhealthy conditions, and corruption. Meanwhile, the media has announced a coming rainstorm that has citizens in an uproar.

Our take

Ambitious series project exploring a speculative narration, Turbia subtly weaves an ensemble story tinged with biblical references. Back in a corner, the characters invented by Oscar Ruiz Navia, Carlos Moreno and Cesar Augusto Acevedo are still very human, clear-headed and generous, just like this generation of filmmakers struggling for delicate but essential expectations.
