In the late 1970s – at a time when the fiercest propaganda against Western culture was being waged through the USSR – an ardent rock and roll fan sets up a successful and illegal underground jeans factory in a Latvian psychiatric hospital.

Our take

A view of Riga, increasingly divided between Slav and Western influences, through the eyes of a young costumier fighting against an outdated system. With remarkable acting from two young actors, Soviet Jeans is a delightfully romantic political story, and the first Latvian entry for Series Mania.
