Moonbird

On a remote Tasmanian island a recently sober father tries to reconnect with his son through a traditional muttonbirding season, only to face cultural and personal crises that threaten their relationship and force them to confront their family’s disturbing history.

Our take

The very first Tasmanian production to be selected showcases the island’s spectacular landscapes and indigenous communities. Through the perspective of a young protagonist, his relationship with his father, and unique scenes of life, Moonbird offers a moving coming-of-age, and a story about transmission and preservation of a culture and territory under threat of disappearance.
