French-born Iranian-American showrunner, director and screenwriter, he directed two episodes of Wayward Pines (2015) before co-creating with Brit Marling two series that immediately roused a cult following: The OA (2016-19) and A Murder at the End of the World (2023). Two suspense series about love, with fantastical components that integrate virtual worlds and Artificial Intelligence without masking its dangers. Zal Batmanglij chairs this year’s jury for the International Competition, and will be meeting the audience to retrace the different stages of his career and reveal the behind-the-scenes aspects of his creative duo with Brit Marling.
