When Ditte Jensen retires with distinction from the Danish Secret Service, she movesinto an apartment block in Reykjavik where she will be able to tend her garden andlive out her life in anonymity. But Ditte can not stop being how she is. An elite soldier and a warrior. And soon the apartment building become here a battlefield for a better world. With her deep rooted sense of justice she sees her neighbor’s problems and is compelled to help, whether they want her help or not.
And in her world, the end justifies the means. Always.

Our take

After Woman at War, Icelandic director Benedikt Erlingsson continues his exploration of rebellious women—this time in a series with The Danish Woman. The show follows the turbulent daily life of a retired Danish woman who moves to Reykjavik, brilliantly portrayed by actress Trine Dyrholm (Rematch). Balancing between satire and social unease, this morally charged and fiercely humorous odyssey of a woman waging war against society’s absurdities—while battling her own demons—reminds us that you can’t judge a book by its cover…
