Sue Vertue is CEO, Board Director and Executive Producer at Hartswood Films. She began her producing career at Tiger Aspect in 1991 with Mr. Bean and went on to produce Emmy® Award-winner The Vicar of Dibley, Gimme Gimme Gimme and Hospital (which was the opening night comedy for Channel 5 and a winner at Banff), and The Last Englishman which was a Bafta-nominated single drama starring Jim Broadbent. In 1998 Sue left Tiger Aspect to produce Comic Relief before joining Hartswood, where she has produced all four series of the very popular Coupling which was created and written by Steven Moffat, her husband – not only did this comedy receive international critical acclaim, it also won various awards (Rose D’or and British Comedy awards amongst them) and the format was sold to the US, Greece and Romania. Sue produced several more comedies –, before going on to be series producer on thirteen 90 minute films of the multi-award winning smash hit drama Sherlock for BBC1 co-created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss. Sherlock has won awards from around the world , including Emmys ®, Baftas, the Peabody, The Prix Europa and the International Seoul award. January 2019 saw the transmission of 3 x 90 minute drama – Dracula ( written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss) which was a BBC / Netflix Production. In 2021 Sue was executive producer on Inside Man (BBC/Netflix) as well as HBO’s Time Traveler’s Wife. Over the last few years, she has been Executive Producer on 3 series of The Devils Hour, written by Tom Moran for Amazon and in 2023 Douglas is Cancelled, starring Hugh Bonneville and Karen Gillan, written by Steven Moffat for ITV – co-produced by Showtime/BBCSD. She is currently filming Number 10, written by Steven Moffat for Channel 4/ITVS. She attends the board for The National Film and Television School and chairs a sub-committee called the Creative Industries Liaison Group. Sue was a member of PACT Council for many years and has recently joined the board for The National Youth Theatre.

Steven Moffat was lead writer and executive producer of BBC One’s Doctor Who from 2009 to 2017, and the co-creator, writer and executive producer of the BBC series Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman and the BBC/Netflix series Dracula. His earlier work included all 43 episodes of the teen drama series Press Gang, and the sitcoms Coupling, Chalk and Joking Apart. Other credits include the TV series Jekyll, the feature film Tintin for Steven Spielberg, an adaptation of The Time Traveler’s Wife for HBO and an original four-part thriller serial Inside Man for BBC/Netflix, starring David Tennant and Stanley Tucci. Steven’s debut play The Unfriend opened at Chichester Festival Theatre in 2022 before transferring to The Criterion Theatre and Wyndham’s Theatre respectively in the West End and the format has been sold to multiple Countries across the world. His most recent credits are Douglas is Cancelled for ITV – co-produced by Showtime/BBCSD and the 2024 Dr Who Christmas special “Joy to the World” for BBC One/Disney. Steven is currently filming his latest series, Number 10, starring Rafe Spall, Jenna Coleman and Katherine Kelly for Channel 4/ITVS . His numerous awards include BAFTAs for Press Gang and Doctor Who, two BAFTAs and two EMMYs for Sherlock, and the BAFTA Special Award in 2012. In 2015 he was created an OBE for services to drama.
