In a post-war European Union, where AI-controlled drones monitor everyone in the name of security, veteran Aart Westerfeld hunts the terrorist leader who killed his wife, a brilliant military scientist. When a Member of Parliament is murdered before the presidential election, Aart joins Europol and partners with idealistic agent Nina Bittman to stop a series of political assassinations by the terrorist group. Using “Mirrorspace”, Europol’s virtual crime reconstruction tech, they uncover a conspiracy involving secret military projects, inside jobs, and a tech tycoon promoting a seductive meta-world as humanity’s future. As Aart chases the ghosts of his past, Nina must question her loyalty to the only system she believes in.
