Bernard Kouchner

Dr. Bernard Kouchner is the founder of the Doctors Without Borders and Doctors of the World charities. He was France’s Minister for Health and Humanitarian Action from 1992 to 1993, and then Minister for Foreign and European Affairs from 2007 to 2010. He is also the author of several books, including Ce que je crois and Dieu and les hommes (dialogues avec l’Abbé Pierre). Under the pseudonym of Bernard Gridaine, he has co-written several series including Hôtel de Police (1985) and En cas de bonheur (1989). He will be at Séries Mania to present Médecins de Nuit, which he co-wrote in 1978 with Hervé Chabalier and Gilles Bression.

Bryan Elsley

Born in 1961 in Scotland, Bryan Elsley started writing for the theater at a young age, before moving into TV. Along with his son, Jamie Brittain, he created Skins in 2007, the teen drama that follows the lives of a group of misfit teenagers in Bristol. Ten years later, he produced Clique, written by his daughter Brittain for BBC Three, about a club of young ambitious female university students. This year, he explores the quest for identity of a group of teens who seek refuge in a virtual reality platform in Kiss Me First, for Channel 4 and Netflix, with this visually exceptional fable that skillfully examines the problems of a new generation.

 

Carlton Cuse

Working as a creator, writer, producer and director, Carlton Cuse is one of the most successful showrunners in television. His status was cemented through his work as writer and showrunner of the critically acclaimed, world-wide hit series LOST for ABC/Disney. His other credits include Bates MotelThe StrainColony and Nash Bridges and the upcoming series for Amazon Prime Video, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.  Among his honors Cuse has received 10 Emmy Nominations and won 2 Emmys, a Golden Globe, a Writer's Guild Award, a Peabody Award, and was part of Time Magazine’s annual List of the 100 Most Influential People in the World. 

Cécile Bois

Cécile Bois has been playing police commissioner Candice Renoir (France 2) since 2013, a character who juggles mysterious murders with family life. She will be at Séries Mania with Ali Marhyar, who plays her right-hand man in the series. They will be in Lille for the screening of two new episodes from the sixth season of Candice Renoir, preceded by a Q&A and an autograph session.

Charlie Covell

Charlie is a London-based writer and actress whose BAFTA-nominated Channel 4/Netflix series THE END OF THE F***ING WORLD has received rave reviews and recently won Best Drama Series at the RTS awards. Previously she has written an episode of Tom Basden's E4 series GAP YEAR (Eleven) and two episodes for Russell T Davies's E4 series BANANA (Red Productions). Her first feature film BURN, BURN, BURN premiered at the 2016 London Film Festival and was nominated for a BIFA award. Charlie also writes with Iain Weatherby and most recently they wrote an episode of series 2 of Channel 4/AMC's hit series HUMANS (Kudos).

Chris Brancato

Chris Brancato has written and produced over 200 hours of television, including such series as X-Files, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, and Hannibal, and co-created the Netflix series Narcos. In addition, Chris Brancato wrote and co-produced MGM's popular gangster feature Hoodlum, starring Lawrence Fishburne, the sci-fi thriller Species II and executive produced the comedy feature Stealing Harvard. He is currently writing Sherlock 3 for Warner Brothers.   

Clovis Cornillac

Clovis Cornillac is a stage, film, and TV actor who appeared on the small screen for the first time in the series Un Village sur la colline in 1982. From 2001 to 2004, he played “Viking”, one of the starring roles in Central Nuit alongside Michel Creton. In 2015, he played lead role in the series Chefs for France 2. He also directed the last four episodes of the second season.

Corinne Masiero

At Séries Mania 2018, Corinne Masiero will take a look back over her career and her political commitment. She hails from Douai and came to cinema relatively late. She was recognized in 2011 for her remarkable performance in Louise Wimmer. She has since starred in many films, including Rust and Bone by Jacques Audiard and Discount by Louis-Julien Petit. Since 2015, she has been playing Capitaine Marleau (France 3) in the series directed by Josée Dayan who will join her in Lille to present a brand-new episode.

Jeremy Podeswa is an award-winning feature film and television director who has been nominated three times for the Emmy Award – for Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and The Pacific. He has directed many series and mini-series, including True Detective, True Blood, Homeland, The Borgias and Dexter. Most recently, he directed both the premiere and finale episodes of Game of Thrones (Season 7), three episodes of Here and Now by Alan Ball and two episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale (season 2). He has also written and directed three award-winning feature films: Fugitive Pieces (Opening Night, Toronto International Film Festival); The Five Senses (Directors’ Fortnight, Cannes); and Eclipse (Berlin and Sundance Festivals).

Kad Merad is a leading actor, director and writer in French cinema. He has appeared in many hits such as Welcome to the Sticks, The Chorus and Don’t worry, I’m Fine. Since 2016, he has played Philippe Rickwaert in the Canal+ series Baron Noir, a political saga that explores the machinations of the French Socialist Party and the power games therein. He will be at Séries Mania with series producer Thomas Bourguignon to talk about the process for constructing a character over the long term.

Maria Feldman is a co-creator and producer of the critically acclaimed series False Flag. The series premiered at Berlinale and won the Grand Prize at Series Mania in 2015. False Flag was acquired by Canal+, FIC and Hulu. Maria Feldman is an Executive Producer of the Amazon Prime Original/Sony Pictures Television series Absentia, and a co-creator and producer of the new international series Fertile Crescent, which won the Co-Production Forum Prize at Series Mania in 2017.

Patrick Duffy

Patrick Duffy has captivated audiences for 34 years as a familiar face on some of television’s most beloved series. He is famous for his iconic role in the drama series Dallas. Patrick Duffy was an original cast member of the 1978 series, starring all 14 seasons. Between 2012 and 2014, he reprised his role as Bobby Ewing in the revival of the show. Among other popular TV programs, he also starred as the lead character in the sci-fi adventure series Man From Atlantis and in the sitcom Step by step.

Pierre Lemaitre

Pierre Lemaitre writes both novels and screenplays. After several thrillers, he wrote the novel “The Great Swindle”, which won the Goncourt prize in 2013. It was adapted into the movie See You Up There starring Albert Dupontel in 2018, which won the Cesar award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He is currently working on the adaptation of his dark novel “Three Days and a Life” for the screen, and Cadres Noirs, a six-episode series for ARTE.

Sofia Helin

Recognised as one of the most talented (Swedish actors) of her generation (Swedish actors), Sofia Helin has proved herself to be equally accomplished on stage and on screen. She broke through internationally with the role of Saga Norén, a homicide detective in the Swedish/Danish crime series "The Bridge", which premiered its fourth and final season in January this year. Last year, Sofia Helin co-starred with Michael Fassbender in “The Snowman” by Tomas Alfredson. She also played the female lead in the feature film “That Good Night”, directed by Eric Styles, which will be released later this year.

Tony Grisoni

British screenwriter Tony Grisoni wrote his first feature-length screenplay for Jon Amiel in 1989: Queen of Hearts. He has worked with many directors, including Michael Winterbottom (In This World, Golden Bear, 2002), John Boorman, James Marsh, Anand Tucker, and Sean Durkin. He worked with Terry Gilliam on Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Tideland, Brothers Grimm and the now-infamous project for The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, which will finally be released this year, two decades after the first screenplay was written. For TV, he wrote The Red Riding Trilogy in 2009 and Southcliffe (Channel 4). This year, he returns to SERIES MANIA to present The City and the City.
